Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki (The Usui System of Natural Energywork Healing)
Reiki is a generic Japanese word and as applied here it is somewhat esoteric. Rei (Ray) means Universal, Cosmic, Beyond referring to the consciousness of Source, Creator. Ki (Ki) means energy the same as Qi (chi) in Chinese medicine. The history of Mikao Usui is that he discovered a method and had a paranormal experience in the process to harness and channel reiki for healing. It is a passive application of hands to specific areas of the body. Many believe that it is balancing the chakras, meridians and acupoints. Usui learned the use of symbols to still the mind as a meditative relaxing technique and pass on the meaning of the symbol into the body of the recipient. It is felt that whatever the recipient experiences is between s/he and Source.
I began receiving Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki in the late spring of 1997 to help with a chronic health issue. While I agreed with the diagnosis and felt that some western medicine was necessary, I could do better. I did not feel that the root cause was being addressed. During my first session I had an experience and sensation in the primary affected area that was unexplainable. I knew right away that the healing process was beginning. I still use a small amount of western medicine. The Reiki Master Teacher I started with recognized I had an understanding and belief of the chakras, and I took the Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Level I Student Certification with in September 1997. Shortly after that my wife and I moved, and the Reiki Master Teacher helped me find a center that had a Reiki Master Teacher. Sometime in the Spring of 1998 I walked in to Healing Gateways. During the period of learning Reiki II Practitioner, I was practicing on another Healing Gateways student. I received something from her body and when I asked her about it she confirmed that I had in deed picked up on something very specific from her past. I completed the Reiki IV Master Teacher certification in June 1999. Traditional Usui Reiki has 3 levels. This Master Teacher did it 4 having a Master Practitioner and Master Teacher. There was no extra charge she divided the normal going rate in 2 parts for various reasons. I find it to work well so I continue the same way.
